A Mechanical Engineering Technologist for You

Born, raised, and schooled in Cincinnati, Ohio, I attended a private grade school where I join the Boy Scouts of America. Over the seven years I spent in Scouts I learned skills ranging from knot tying, cooking, and camping to the principles of plumbing, radio broadcasting, and drafting.

When I began high school I joined choir and had the opportunity to travel to New York City, New Orleans, Orlando, and Nashville. I also took to various leadership positions in the Boy Scouts at this time as Senior Patrol Leader, Philmont Trek Crew Leader, and head of my Eagle Scout Project at the Little Sister’s of the Poor Home for the Aged. Between my junior and senior years I went on a mission trip to the Rosebud Indian Reservation where my classmates and I ran a vacation bible school for the younger schoolchildren. In senior year I enrolled in the second class of an engineering course developed in partnership with University of Cincinnati.

After graduation, I enrolled in the University of Cincinnati, College of Engineering and Applied Science and began my studies in mechanical engineering. While in college I have participated in the Mountaineering Club, Board Game Club, and St. Monica-St. George Newman Club.

Areas of Interest

While studying mechanical engineering, I’ve become interested in a few areas that I would like to explore and engage in during my carrier.

ENVIRONMENT & Design

In the development of modern technologies, products, and techniques the environment must be considered more and more closely. While every end user is different, the world they live on is the same and must be considered in every aspect of design. To this end I would like to learn more about the use of recycled materials and the reduction of waste in manufacturing.

Renewable Energy

To reduce and eventually eliminate our dependency on fossil fuels, renewable energy is an invaluable asset for maintaining technological advancement while increasing sustainability. By creating products to allow everyone to participate in green initiatives in some capacity and encouraging the adoption of these products a greater and quicker integration of renewable energy can be achieved.

REPAIR-ABILITY

To reduce the amount of waste a growing population produces, repair-ability must be reintroduced into our designs and to our end users. By planning for repairs by the end user, a company can maintain and improve their margins through the sale of OEM parts to professional maintenance personnel and consumers.

Skills

During my studies I have developed many skills.

Hard Skills

  • Horizontal & Vertical Milling Machine

  • Lathe

  • CNC Milling & Lathe

  • Surface Grinder

  • Welding, Soldering, & Brazing

  • OSHA 10 hour Certification

Software Skills

  • MATLAB

  • SolidWorks & AutoCAD 18

  • Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, & Word)

  • PLC programming

Activities

I enjoy many activities outside of class and work.

Outdoorsmanship

Through years of camping, hiking, backpacking, and swimming with the Boy Scouts of America including two treks to Philmont Scout Ranch, I have developed a love of exploration and nature. Although it is more difficult to find time to get outdoors I still enjoy hiking and skeet and five stand shooting.

Gaming

Since I was little, I have always enjoyed the friendly competition and teamwork of table top games including Chess, Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, and D&D. Although it may seem naive, I have learned and often practice resourcefulness and lateral thinking in order to gain any advantage I can muster from even the most dire situations.

volunteering

In giving to others though various service activities, two mission trips, and my Eagle Scout Project I have been given the opportunity to learn of the importance of service to others and the effect that the simplest acts have on those around you.

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in that grey twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.
— Theodore Roosevelt
